Navigate Your Liminality

Young people who cross borders leave one cultural and legal system behind before they are integrated into the next. Liminal Minds Initiative researches that gap, advocates on it, and connects those crossing it with people who already have.

Liminal Minds Initiative

Liminal Minds Initiative (LMI) is a Vienna-based, youth-led research and advocacy non-profit and a United Nations Major Group member entity. We work on cultural belonging, institutional transitions, and youth participation in policy for migrant, multicultural, and internationally mobile young people.

What we do

  • Research: we maintain the Liminality Index (Lx), an academic framework institutions use to measure cultural liminality within their cohorts.
  • Advocacy: we bring evidence on integrational friction into institutional and multilateral policy dialogue.
  • Institutional practice: universities, schools, and NGOs deploy the Lx toolkit on their own infrastructure through the LMI Network.
